1. Rules

   Bandwidth:

   Bandwidth limitation feature helps you to set the maximum speeds for downloads & uploads. Default value is disabled. All values are in KB/s (Kilobytes per second). Bandwidth limitation is very useful when you have many simultaneous connected terminals.

   Example:
   If you set 64 as Download Speed Limit, all terminals will have maximum of 64 KB/s download speed (512 kbps). Bandwidth limiting is terminal based.

   • Enable Bandwidth: This option enables/disables Bandwidth limitation.
   • Download Speed Limit: Maximum download speed. 0 = Unlimited
   • Upload Speed Limit: Maximum upload speed. 0 = Unlimited
   • Enable for Server: This option enables/disables Download / Upload speed limits for server.

   Port Prevent:

   Port Prevent option helps you to disable access to any port of a remote connection.

   • Enable Port Preventing: This option enables/disables Port Preventing option.
   • Enable for Server: This option enables/disabled Port Preventing option for server.

   MAC Whitelist:

   Any MAC addresses added to MAC Whitelist do not need to login to use WiFi. However, all other restrictions will be applied.

   Forbiddens:

   Any applications added to Forbidden Applications list can not connect to internet.

   Exceptions:

   Any applications added to Excepted Applications list will by-pass Hotspot. Warning: You can not monitor or control excepted applications and no rules will be applied.

2. Filtering

   Website Filtering is one of the most powerful feature of HCSpot Hotspot Software. You can ban websites, root domains, ips, hosts, urls, keywords. You can also create your trusted websites list. HCSpot Hotspot Software's filtering engine can check any connections less than 0,02ms, even if you have millions of records.

   General:

   You can enable/disable Advanced Rules under General tab.

   Website Filtering:

   Here you can add any websites, ips, urls, root domains, hostnames you would like to restrict. You can add one record per line. Note: Trusted Websites by-pass this filter (if enabled).

   Examples:
   

   • example.com: Any urls and subdomains of example.com (like www.example.com, ftp.example.com and etc.) will be banned.
   • www.example.com: www.example.com, test.www.example.com and etc. will be banned. However, example.com, ftp.example.com will not be banned.
   • xxx: All of .xxx domains will be banned.
   • 112.11.10.5: You can also ban IP addresses.
   • example.com/test/: This example shows how to ban a specific url. example.com/test/video.php will be banned, however, example.com/testit will not be banned.

   Banned Keywords:

   You can define banned keywords using Banned Keywords list. HCSpot Hotspot Software checks the title of the visited website. If title includes a banned keyword, access will be denied. You can add one record per line. Note: Trusted Websites and HTTPS (SSL) connections by-pass this filter.

   Examples:
   

   • test: "This is a test website" will be banned, however, "This website is tested" will pass the filter.
   • test*: "This is a test website" will be banned, "This website is tested" will also be banned. "Mytest website" will pass the filter.
   • *test: "This is a test website" will be banned, "Mytest website" will also be banned. "This website is tested" will pass the filter.
   • *test*: All website titles includes test will be banned. "MyTestedWebsite" will be banned.

   Trusted Websites

   Sometimes, you may want to trust a website. Let's say you wish to ban the keyword "porn". However, there may be an article in cnn.com about banned keyword. If you add cnn.com in your trusted list, cnn.com will not be affected by any filters.

3. Options

   General

   • Company Name: Your company name will be appeared as the header of your tickets.
   • Enable WiFi Hotspot: If you disable this option, Wifi users will not be able to connect to internet.
   • WiFi Requires Login: If you disable this option, Wifi users can use internet without logging in. This options is useful if you plan to offer free wifi internet connection. If this option is enabled, your users will need to login using their tickets.
   • Run hotspot at Windows startup: HCSpot Hotspot Software will start automatically when Windows starts.
   • Hide on close: If this option is enabled, HCSpot Hotspot Software will hide itself when you click on the close (x) button. You can use menu to quit application.
   • Enable Timeout: If a user is idle for a specific length of time (in minutes), HCSpot Hotspot Software will stop their sessions. Your user will need to login again. Default value is set to 15 (in minutes).

   Log

   Under Log tab, you can select connections you would like to log. You can enable/disable logging using this page.

   Tickets

   You can define default variables for tickets. All these variables will be automatically set when you click Create Tickets button under Tickets page of the main window.

   Appearance

   You can customize the appearance of HCSpot Hotspot Software using this page.

   • Use theme: This option enables Theming. You can choose any pre-defined them from the list. Warning: Theming feature may slowdown HCSpot Hotspot Software. We do not recommend you to use this feature if you have too many simultaneous connected clients.
   • Show grid lines: HCSpot Hotspot Software shows grid lines in lists if you enable this option.
   • Use zebra style: HCSpot Hotspot Software uses different colors for each line in lists. This options helps to read lines better.
   • Use device icons: HCSpot Hotspot Software can detect user's device and shows the icon of the device in the list. This option is ignored if WiFi requires login is disabled.

   Network

   You can change the default TCP port of HCSpot Hotspot Software. We don't recommend you to change this option. Default value is 290.
