Folder Locations
Folder Locations decides where HandyCafe writes its data. Leave a folder unset to use the default location. Changing one is useful for a disk-less setup that keeps data on a network drive or on a persistent volume.
Open Settings, then Folders.
Each block shows the current path with a Default or Custom badge and the default path underneath. Three actions are available: Change, Open and Reset to default.
The Three Folders
Working folder
Holds the database, settings, assets, screen recordings and backups. Moving it relocates everything at once. The database is reconnected without restarting the app.
IP Log folder
Holds the access log day files used for legal retention duties. The new location takes effect immediately without restarting the app. See IP Logs and Access Records.
Log folder
Holds the application and error log files. The new location takes effect after the next restart.
Moving a Folder
Select Change and pick a destination. HandyCafe counts the files and their total size, then asks for confirmation before moving anything. The move copies the files, verifies them at the destination and then switches over.
Reset to default moves the contents back to the default location the same way.
If the destination is on a different drive, a warning notes that the move may take longer.
A move cannot start while a screen recording is running. Stop the recording and try again.
Rules for a Destination
| Rule | Reason |
|---|---|
| The path must be absolute | A relative path resolves differently depending on how the app is started |
| The new folder cannot sit inside the current one | Moving a folder into itself would lose data |
| The folder must be empty of HandyCafe data | An existing installation would be overwritten |
| HandyCafe must be able to write there | A read-only or permission-restricted path fails the move |
Common Messages
| Message | What it means |

| HandyCafe cannot write to the selected folder | Check the folder permissions |
| A screen recording is in progress | Stop the recording first |
| The moved files could not be verified | The move was abandoned. Nothing was removed from the original location |
