Overview and Website Statistics

This page covers two tabs of the Analytics page.

  • Overview is a one-day dashboard. Revenue, expenses, sessions and members for a single business day, with the change from the day before.
  • Websites lists the sites and addresses your stations reached, counted per day.

Where to Find Them

Open Analytics in the left sidebar. Overview is the tab the page opens on. Websites is further along the tab strip, after Computer Usage.

Overview Tab

Choosing the day

The Overview shows one business day at a time. There is no range picker.

Control What it does
Yesterday The default. The last complete business day.
Today The business day in progress.
Pick date Shows a date field. The report loads when a date is picked.
Refresh Reloads the selected day.

The header shows which day is loaded and its date in brackets. The business day start hour comes from Settings, General, Business Day Starts At.

When nothing happened on the day, a note says No activity recorded for the selected day. The cards are still shown with zeros.

The KPI cards

Card What it shows
Revenue Revenue on the day.
Expenses Expenses on the day.
PC Sessions Sessions on computers.
Console Sessions Sessions on consoles.
New Members Members registered on the day, with the Member revenue under it.
Active Members (30d) Members active in the last 30 days, out of the Total members.

Day-over-day change

After the day loads, HandyCafe loads the business day before it as well. Revenue, Expenses, PC Sessions and Console Sessions then show a change badge against that earlier day.

Until the earlier day arrives the cards show a detail line instead. The same happens when it fails to load:

  • Revenue shows Net = Revenue - Expenses and the net amount.
  • PC Sessions shows the time computers were in use, labelled PC occupied.
  • Console Sessions shows Console occupied time.

A failed comparison never blocks the main figures.

Reading the change badge

The same badge is used on the Overview, Revenues, Sales, Sessions and Tax tabs.

Badge Meaning
Green, arrow up The figure rose.
Red, arrow down The figure fell.
Grey, flat line No change.
New The earlier value was zero and the current one is above zero.

On Expenses the colours are reversed. A rise in expenses is red and a fall is green. The percentage is measured against the size of the earlier value. A negative earlier value does not flip the sign.

PC vs Console Usage

Two bars compare how long computers and consoles were in use on the day. Each bar shows the occupied time and the number of sessions.

Hourly Activity

A 24-hour grid of the day. Switch between two views:

  • Occupancy: minutes of use in each hour.
  • Revenue: revenue taken in each hour.

Darker cells mean more activity. The Busiest and Quietest badges name the hours that are busiest and quietest on average over the last 90 days. The quietest hour only counts hours with some real activity.

Weekly Occupancy Pattern

A heat map of weekdays against hours. Each cell is the average number of minutes occupied in that hour on that weekday, over the last 90 days. The badges name the Busiest day, Quietest day, Busiest hour and Quietest hour.

This panel looks back 90 days whatever day is selected above.

Top Items

The five leading entries on the day in three lists:

  • Games, by play time
  • Apps, by run time
  • Products, by sales amount

When the day has none, the panel says No items recorded.

Campaign Sales

Each campaign sold on the day, with the number of sales. When there were none the panel says No campaign sales in this period.

Websites Tab

The Websites tab shows Most Visited Websites: the sites and destinations the stations reached. It keeps one counter per day, per site, per station. Visit times are never recorded. There is no hourly breakdown.

This is customer browsing data. Show it only to whoever needs it. Check what your local rules require before keeping it.

Turning it on

Counting is on by default. The settings live in Settings, Clients, Client Security, in the Website Statistics box.

Setting What it does
Count visited websites Master switch. When off, nothing is counted and the tab says Website statistics are off.
Count destinations with no name Also counts destination IP addresses with no domain, such as game servers and update channels.
Retention period (days) How long daily counters are kept. Default 30. Older rows are deleted automatically.
Share daily totals with HandyCafe Sends venue-wide daily site totals with the usual telemetry. No station, member or address is included.
Delete collected data Deletes every stored counter after a confirmation. This cannot be undone.

These are daily totals, not an access record. They do not meet a legal logging duty on their own.

When the feature is off, the tab shows an Open settings button that takes you to the right settings tab.

The cards

Card What it shows
Total visits All counted visits in the range.
Sites Distinct sites.
Addresses Distinct destination addresses. Shows Address counting is off when that setting is off.
Active stations Stations that reached anything in the range.

Filters

Control What it does
Today, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days Quick ranges.
Station selector All stations or one station by its name on the floor.
Filters Opens more options: a range selector with Yesterday, This Month and Custom, two date fields for a custom range, and Rows (50, 100 or 250).
Search a site or address Narrows the list as you type.
Refresh button Reloads the data.
Export button Saves the list on screen to a CSV file.

A range can be at most one year long. A wider or reversed range shows an error and does not load.

When the range starts before the oldest stored day, a note says so. Anything older has passed the retention period.

Daily traffic

A small bar chart with one bar per day, split into Sites and Addresses. Hover a bar to see the day, both counts and the number of stations.

Sites and Addresses

Two views of the main list. The button for each shows how many rows it holds.

  • Sites groups by registered domain. Every host under google.com is one row.
  • Addresses lists destination addresses with no resolved name. It is disabled when address counting is off.

Stations older than version 5.0.14 cannot report names. Their traffic appears under Addresses.

Column Meaning
Site or Destination address What was reached.
Visits Counted visits.
Stations How many stations reached it.
Members How many members reached it.
Last seen The last day it was counted.

Click a column heading to sort. Sorting reorders only the top rows the server returned, up to the Rows limit. Ascending order is therefore not the least visited site overall.

Busiest stations and Range summary

The side panel lists the Busiest stations. Each row shows the station name, its visits, its Distinct sites and the last day it was seen. Click a row to filter the whole tab to that station. The row's tooltip reads Show only this station.

Range summary repeats the four totals and shows the Oldest stored day.

What the CSV contains

The file is named after the range, for example website-statistics-today.csv. It has one row per entry in the current view and sort order, with the columns site, kind, hits, stations, members and last day.

Procedures

Check yesterday against the day before

  1. Open Analytics. The Overview loads Yesterday.
  2. Read the change badges on the KPI cards.
  3. Switch Hourly Activity to Revenue to see when the money came in.

Find the sites one station visited this week

  1. Open Analytics, then Websites.
  2. Press Last 7 Days.
  3. Pick the station in the station selector.
  4. Read the Sites list. Switch to Addresses for traffic with no name.

Keep browsing data for less time

  1. Open Settings, Clients, Client Security.
  2. In Website Statistics, lower Retention period (days).
  3. Save the settings. Older counters are removed automatically.

Permissions

Both tabs need the Reporting permission View. See Cashier Roles & Permissions.

A role with Show Today's Reports but not Show Full Reports is limited to today:

  • On the Overview only Today is offered. Active Members (30d), the 90-day busiest and quietest hours and the Weekly Occupancy Pattern are withheld.
  • On the Websites tab only Today is offered.

The limit is enforced by the server. There is no edition requirement for either tab.

Troubleshooting

"Statistics could not be loaded. Check the logs and try again." The Overview request failed. Press Refresh.

The Overview change badges are missing. The earlier day could not be loaded. The detail lines are shown instead.

The Websites tab says "Nothing recorded yet". Counting is on but no station has reached anything in the range. Widen the range or check that clients are connected.

The Websites tab says "Website statistics are off". Press Open settings and switch on Count visited websites.

A site I expect is missing. Only the top rows up to the Rows limit are returned. Raise the limit or search for the site.

Old days are missing. They passed the retention period and were deleted.
